The Science
How It Works
Botulinum toxin type A works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause targeted muscles to contract. When injected into specific facial muscles, it relaxes their movement, smoothing the overlying skin and preventing the deepening of dynamic wrinkles. The procedure takes 15 minutes or less. Results begin to appear within 3 to 5 days and reach their peak at 2 weeks.
Preparation & Recovery
- 01Avoid blood-thinning medications (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil) for 1 week before treatment
- 02Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment
- 03Avoid facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments for 2 weeks prior
- 04Arrive with a clean face, free of makeup
- 05Discuss your medical history and any medications at your consultation
- 01Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment; do not lie down
- 02Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for 24 hours
- 03Do not exercise or engage in strenuous activity for 24 hours
- 04Avoid heat exposure (saunas, hot yoga, steam rooms) for 48 hours
- 05Expect full results to develop over 7 to 14 days
