What Is the Cynosure Elite+ Laser System?
The Cynosure Elite+ is a dual-wavelength laser platform manufactured by Cynosure, a Hologic company and one of the world's leading medical aesthetics technology companies. The Elite+ is the flagship laser hair removal system in the Cynosure portfolio, combining two distinct laser wavelengths in a single device to address the full spectrum of skin tones and hair types.
The first wavelength is the 755nm Alexandrite laser, which is highly absorbed by melanin and delivers fast, precise hair removal on lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I through III). The second wavelength is the 1064nm Nd:YAG laser, which penetrates deeper into the dermis with reduced melanin absorption, making it the safest and most effective option for darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV through VI).
The Cynosure Elite+ is FDA-cleared for laser hair removal, treatment of vascular lesions, and non-ablative skin rejuvenation. How Cynosure Laser Treatment Works.
Skintel Melanin Reading
Before every Cynosure laser hair removal session, our practitioner uses the Skintel melanin reader to measure your skin's melanin index. This patented Cynosure technology automatically calculates the safest starting fluence and wavelength for your skin tone, eliminating guesswork and reducing the risk of adverse reactions.
Wavelength Selection and Settings
Based on your Skintel reading and hair characteristics, we select the appropriate Cynosure wavelength. Lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I-III) are treated with the 755nm Alexandrite laser. Darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV-VI) are treated with the 1064nm Nd:YAG laser. Cynosure laser settings including fluence, pulse duration, and spot size are adjusted for each treatment area.
DCD Cooling and Laser Delivery
The Cynosure Elite+ Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) sprays a cryogen mist onto the skin immediately before each laser pulse, cooling the epidermis to protect it from heat. The laser pulse then travels through the cooled skin surface and is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle, converting to heat that disables the follicle's ability to regrow hair.
Progressive Hair Reduction
Cynosure laser hair removal targets follicles in the active growth phase (anagen). Because not all follicles are in anagen simultaneously, multiple sessions are required to treat the full hair population. Most clients achieve 80 to 95 percent permanent hair reduction after 6 to 8 Cynosure laser hair removal sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart.
Post-Treatment Care
After Cynosure laser treatment, the skin may appear mildly red or feel warm for a few hours. Treated hairs shed naturally over 1 to 3 weeks. We recommend avoiding sun exposure, hot showers, and active skincare for 48 hours post-treatment. SPF 50 daily is essential between sessions to protect the treated skin.
Long-Term Results
Cynosure laser hair removal delivers long-lasting permanent hair reduction. After completing a full course of treatment, most clients enjoy smooth, hair-free skin with minimal maintenance. Some clients choose an annual touch-up session to address any fine regrowth. The results are significantly more durable than waxing, threading, or IPL treatments.
